Ashlee and her friend decided to play baseball in a park near her home. Ashlee threw the ball to her daughter who proceeded to hit it with a force of 5 000 N at an angle of 80◦ above the horizontal.

(a) Draw this force on a free body diagram and calculate both the vertical and horizontal components.

(b) If the mass of the ball was 150 g, calculate the vertical and horizontal components of the acceleration of the ball. The ball, completing it’s graceful flight to the heavens, lands 6 metres to the east of her friend.

Ashlee ran to the ball to pick it up. After obtaining the ball, still slightly dazed from her friends amazing display of athleticism begins to run in the wrong direction!

(c) ashlee runs 7 metres to the north east from where the ball landed. Calculare how far east she ends up from her friend. Calculate how far north she travels.

(d) Using this information calculate her total displacement from her friend and the angle.
