Physics: Waves, Light, and Sound.
What are the effects of waves going through a larger hole vs. going through a smaller hole? and why is this so? Thanks so much!
when the size of hole is bigger, the wave passes unhindered to the hole.
when the hole size is smallerand of comparable width we can see diffraction. this is due to the fact diffraction happens only when the width of the hole iscomparable to the wavelength of wave.
since the wavelength of sound is much much grater than the wavelength of light ,hence the hole width is of utmost importance. for a very small hole, light will show diffraction where as sound wave reflect back.
more over the effect in light wave can be easily seen where as in case of sound wave we need detectors .
