Using what you have learned about waves, describe an experiment you could design to measure distances to objects that cannot be reached directly.
lets talk about sound waves. suppose you see a mountain at far distance separated by a huge river. you want to know the distance of that mountain. but physical meausrement is not possible. here yu canshout vey loud , after some time, you will hear your echo. you need to measure the time gap between your shout and the echo your heard.
we know , sound waves travels with a constant speed approx 340 m/s. suppose your measure the time gap to be 3.6 second, in this time sound travels a total distance of 340*3.6=1224 m.
Now you notice this distance is Two times the distance between you and the mountain. so now , you can say distance betwwen you and the mountain is half the distance travelled by the sound. and it is 1224/2=612 m.
