A 50-N crate is held at rest on a frictionless incline by a force that is parallel to the incline. If the incline is 35° above the horizontal, the magnitude of the applied force is ____N. Round your answer to the nearest whole number. Do not use scientific notation.

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Weight of the crate = W = 50 N

Angle of incline = = 35o

Horizontal force applied = F

The crate is held as rest that is there is no acceleration therefore all the forces acting on it are balanced.

From the free body diagram,

WSin = FCos

(50)Sin(35) = FCos(35)

F = 35.01 N

Rounding off to nearest whole number,

F = 35 N

Magnitude of the horizontal force applied = 35 N
