A 100 gram apple falls from a branch that is 2.5 meters above the ground. -How much time elapses before the apple hits the ground? -Just before the impact, what is the speed of the apple? Please explain.

Homework Answers

Answer #1

time to fall t = (2h/g) ^1/2

                     = (2 * 2.5 /9.8)^ 1/2

                     = 0.714 s

speed of the apple after reaching the ground v = vo + gt = 0 + gt = gt

                       v = 9.8 * 0.714

                          = 7 m/s
