RLC circuit has a 363 ohm resistor and a solenoid with a 681 ohm inductive reactance. What capacitance should be added to the circuit if the average RMS current is to be maximized when the frequency is 73 hertz?

Answer #1

RMS current is maximum when the impedance of the circuit is minimum. The impedance of an RLC circuit is minimum at the resonance condition.
Capacitive reactance = Inductive reactance
XC = XL
1/C = XL
Where is the angular frequency and C is the capacitance.
C = 1/ * XL
= 1 / [(2 * f) * XL]
Where f is the frequency of the circuit.
C = 1 / [(2 * 73) * 681]
= 3.20 * 10-6 F
