Explain how a guitarist can play different notes with a single string by pressing on that string at particular points
A guitar string acts as a stretched string fixed at both ends.the minimum frequency which can be produced by this string is called as fundamental frequency and is give by
fn= n V/2L
n=1, 2, 3,4------
V= velocity of the wave on the string
L= length of string
so the frequencies produced on the string are V/2L, 2V/2L, 3V/2L---
V/2L is the fundamental frequency
Others are called as Harmonics
By pressing the string of the guitar at different points, we excite the different harmonics in it and thus we hear different notes
