Two resistors, 45.4 and 76.6Ω, are connected in parallel. The current through the 76.6-Ω resistor is 2.38A. (a) Determine the current in the other resistor. (b) What is the total power supplied to the two resistors?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

In this problem the value of current in one of the resistor is given,

that is R1 =76.6 ohm. current I1=2.38A is flowing in the corresponding resistor.

Now as weknow that Current will divide in the resistors but voltage will remain the same.

so volatge applied in the circuit is, V=I1R1 =76.6*2.38=182.308V

So the current in the second resistor,I2 =V/R2= 182.308/45.4=4.01A

Now for power,

equivalent resistance of the parallel resistors= R1 R2 /R1 +R2 =76.6*45.4/76.6+45.4 =28.25 ohms

So power= V2 /R= 182.3082 /28.25 =1176.50 watt
