7)A projectile is launched with velocity 68 m/s at an angle of 60° with the horizontal (x-axis). The magnitude of the velocity at the highest point in its trajectory is ____________m/s.

Homework Answers

Answer #1

At highest point of its the vertical component of is zero and the particle only has horizontal component of velocity.

Now, there is no acceleration akong the horizontal direction. So, the horizontal velocity will remain same for all time.

Initial horizontal component of the velocity v = 68 m / s is ( v cos a ), where, a is the angle with horizontal = 60o

Hence, initial horizontal velocity = ( 68 m / s x cos 60o ) = 34 m / s.

Hence, magnitude of velocity at the highest point of the trajectory is : 34 m / s.
