A long wire stretches along the x axis and carries a 4.0 A current to the right (+x). The wire is in a uniform magnetic field B⃗ =(0.22i−0.39j+0.14k)T
a)Determine the y-component of the force on the wire per cm of length.
b)Determine the z-component of the force on the wire per cm of length.
Since magnetic force on current carrying wire is given by,
= L*(x)
here, = 4.0 i
= (0.22 i−0.39 j+0.14 k) T
So, /L = force on the wire length. = (4.0 i)x(0.22 i−0.39 j+0.14 k) T
/L = 4*0.22 (i x i) - 4*0.39 (i x j) + 4*0.14 (i x k)
/L = 0 - 4*0.39 k + 4*0.14 (-j)
/L = (-0.56 j - 1.56 k) N/m
So, (a.)
y-component of the force on the wire per cm of length = -0.56*0.01
Fy/L = -5.6*10^-3 N/cm
(b.)
z-component of the force on the wire per cm of length = -1.56*0.01
Fz/L = -15.6*10^-3 N/cm
