A spring of negligible mass is compressed between 2 masses on a frictionless table with sloping ramps at both ends. The masses are released simultaneously. The masses have the same volume, but the density of M1 is less than that of M2. select one of the options for each.. greater than, equal to, or less than.

The momentum of M2 is ... the momentum of M1 once they both lose contact with the spring.

The final height up the ramp reached by M2 is ... the height reached by M1.

The duration of the force exerted by the spring on M2 is ... the time the force acts on M1.

The speed of M2 is ... the speed of M1 once they both lose contact with the spring.

The kinetic energy of M1 is ... 'the kinetic energy of M2 once they both lose contact with the spring.

The force exerted by the spring on M2 is ... the force it exerts on M1.

Answer #1

First I would like you to note that density is Mass/volume , so M1 will have a greater mass since volumes are the same.

5. Equal, since the force is the same, and the higher velocity of the lower mass is proportional the the higher mass with the lower velocity given by the equation momentum = mass * velocity

2-. Equal, force will always be equal in this case and it is independent of the object it is acting on.

4. Greater than and we can see this by the force equation f = ma, and since force exerted on both is equal.

1- greater than, because an equal force is being applied, the smaller mass will have a greater velocity

3- Equal since energy in the spring is converted to kinetic, both will be the same

The drawing shows two boxes resting on frictionless ramps. One box is relatively light and sits on a steep ramp. The other box is heavier and rests on a ramp that is less steep. The boxes are released from rest at A and allowed to slide down the ramps. The two boxes have masses of 8 and 32 kg. If A and B are 4.0 and 1.5 m, respectively, above the ground, determine the speed of (a) the lighter box...

An object of mass m1 approaches with velocity v1 another object of mass m2, which is at rest, next to a spring having force constant k. The spring is fixed to a wall and m2 can compress the spring. This is one-dim horizontal collision without friction. We consider two collision scenarios, one which is perfectly inelastic, and the other which is elastic.
