An egg is launched off the top of lynnwood hall. The initial velocity off the egg is Vo=Vot and the initial height off the egg above the ground is H

(a)What is the velocity off the egg at the momentum it hits the ground in terms of Vo, H and g?

(b)What is the speed of the egg at the moment it hits the ground in terms of Vo, H and g?

(c)What angle does the egg make with the ground as it hits the ground in term of Vo, H and g?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

a)

Along X-direction :

Vox = initial velocity along the x-direction = Vot

ax = acceleration = 0 m/s2

t = time taken

Vfx = final velocity

using the equation

Vfx = Vox + ax t

Vfx = Vot + (0) t

Vfx = Vot

Along the Y-direction :

Voy = initial velocity along the y-direction = 0

ay = acceleration = g

Y = displacement = H

Vfy = final velocity

using the equation

V2fy = V2oy + 2 ay Y

V2fy = 02+ 2(g) H

Vfy = sqrt(2gH)

velocity is given as

Vf = Vot i + sqrt(2gH) j

b)

speed is given as

final velocity is given as

|Vf | = sqrt(Vfx2 + Vfy2)

Vf = sqrt(V2ot + 2gH)

c)

= tan-1(2gH/Vot)
