Calculate the energy you get if the Sun is powered by gravitational contraction, and calculate how long you can power the Sun that way. [You'll need the formula for energy released by a sphere of mass M collapsing to a radius R, the Lord Kelvin calculation. If you don't know that formula, you can always re-derive it by using the formula for escape velocity, and then requiring that ALL the Sun “escapes”.
