A system consists of 56 electrons and 44 protons. e=1.60×10^?19C. Is the total charge of the system positive or negative?What is the total charge of the system?
and
In case 1 a charge q is at the origin, and a charge 5q is 1 m away. In case 2 a charge q is at the origin, and a charge ?5q is 1 m away.Is the magnitude of the force exerted on the charge at the origin in case 1 greater than, less than, or equal to the magnitude of the force exerted on that charge in case 2? PLEase answer quick
Part A
Charge of proton = + 1.6*10^-19
Charge of electron = - 1.6*10^-19
No. of proton = 44
No. of electron = 56
Net charge will be
Q = Np*Qp + Ne*Qe
Q = 44*1.6*10^-19 + 56*(-1.6*10^-19)
Q = -19.2*10^-19 C
Also total charge is negative.
Part B
Magnitude of electrostatic force is given by:
|F| = k|q1|*|q2|/r^2
In case 1
r = 1 m
|F| = k*|q|*|5q|/1^2
|F| = k*5*q^2
In case 2
r = 1 m
|F| = k*|q|*|-5q|/1^2
we know that
|-5q| = 5q
|F| = k*5*q^2
So Force will be equal in both cases.
