A ballistic pendulum experiment, projectile 1 results in a maxium height h of the pendulum equals to 2.1cm. A second projectile causes the pendulum to swing higher, to h2= 5.5cm. The second projectile was how many times faster than the first.

Answer #1

Formula used for this perticular question is -

(T2 / L)1 = (T2 / L)2 ...(1)

Lets assume that t1 is time for projectile 1 and t2 is time for projectile 2 than-

(t1)2 / 2.1 = (t2)2 / 5.5

t2 = t1

t2 = 1.62 * t1

means t2 is 1.62 time faster than t1.

You’re doing some stress-testing on various models of glass jars to determine the height from which they can be dropped and still not break. The setup for this experiment, on a particular type of jar, is as follows. You have a ladder with n rungs, and you want to find the highest rung from which you can drop a copy of the jar and not have it break. We call this the highest safe rung. It might be natural to...

In this assignment you will write a program that compares the relative strengths of two earthquakes, given their magnitudes using the moment magnitude scale. Earthquakes The amount of energy released during an earthquake -- corresponding to the amount of shaking -- is measured using the "moment magnitude scale". We can compare the relative strength of two earthquakes given the magnitudes m1 and m2 using this formula: f=10^1.5(m1−m2) If m1>m2, the resulting value f tells us how many times stronger m1...

Problem 1: Relations among Useful Discrete Probability Distributions. A Bernoulli experiment consists of only one trial with two outcomes (success/failure) with probability of success p. The Bernoulli distribution is P (X = k) = pkq1-k, k=0,1 The sum of n independent Bernoulli trials forms a binomial experiment with parameters n and p. The binomial probability distribution provides a simple, easy-to-compute approximation with reasonable accuracy to hypergeometric distribution with parameters N, M and n when n/N is less than or equal...

Activity 1: Scientific Reports You may have heard the question “If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?” A similar question can be asked about experiments. “If a researcher performs an experiment and never publishes the result has science been performed?” Many people would say no because science is the accumulation of knowledge. If the results of an experiment are not published, knowledge is not gained. The final...
