It is said that two 60 W light bulbs shine brighter than three 40 W bulbs. Is it true?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

The amount of brightness of bulbs depend on the amount of current which is passing through the filament of the bulb, as current increases the brightness also increases. They are directly proportional. For the same voltage, we can say that 60 W bulb will have higher current as compared to the 40 W bulb. (Power is product of current and voltage, when voltage is constant the current is directly proportional to the power). Hence we can say that 60 W bulbs are more brighter than the 40 W bulb (voltage is considered constant).

Brighter Ideas produces two types of residential light bulbs: incandescent and halogen. Brighter Ideas has four manufacturing sites for its light bulbs and two principal markets, but they do not know how to ship their product to best satisfy demand over the coming week. Brighter Ideas four manufacturing centers are Phoenix, Portland, Madison, and Rochester with a weekly production potential of 2,000, 13,000, 6,000, and 15,000 respectively for the incandescent bulbs and 19,000, 9,000, 9,000, and 8,000 respectively for the...

Light bulbs are often rated by the wattage of the bulb, i.e. 60-watt or 90-watt rated bulbs are common. This can be misleading because if you attach the same bulb to different voltage sources they will produce a different power output. The rating is with the assumption that you are connect- ing it to a standard voltage, like the 120 volts that come from the wall outlet (for this problem lets ignore the effects of alternating current). (a) If the...

Shine-Ola Premium Bulbs: the Pricing Decision Voll Taik, the marketing manager for a new lighting start-up was very interested in the concept of Value-Based pricing. He was wondering how he might apply the concept to a situation facing his company "Shine-Ola". The new product, "Shine-Ola Premium Bulb", was a LED (Light Emitting Diode) technology and was dramatically better than competing lighting solutions available on the market. Competing solutions included standard incandescent bulbs and compact fluorescent lighting, (CFL). Extensive laboratory testing...

Compact fluorescent bulbs are much more efficient at producing light than are ordinary incandescent bulbs. They initially cost much more, but last far longer and use much less electricity. According to one study of these bulbs, a compact bulb that produces as much light as a 100 W W incandescent bulb uses only 23.0 W W of power. The compact bulb lasts 10000 hours, on the average, and costs $ $ 11.00, whereas the incandescent bulb costs only $ $...
