you push a 40.0 kg block that remains stationary on a horizontal surface with an applied force Fa. the force has a magnitude of 200 N and is directed at an angle of 30 degrees below the horizontal. What is the magnitude of the normal force exerted on the block by the surface?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Gravitational acceleration = g = 9.81 m/s2

Mass of the block = m = 40 kg

Force applied on the block = F = 200 N

Angle at which the force is applied = = 30o

Normal force on the block from the surface = N

The block remain stationary therefore there is no acceleration of the box hence all the forces on the block are balanced.

From the free body diagram,

N = mg + FSin

N = (40)(9.81) + (200)Sin(30)

N = 492.4 N

Magnitude of the normal force exerted on the block by the surface = 492.4 N
