Consider the magenetic field from a bar magnets. What configuration of electric charges would be needed to produce a similar patterned electric field? Draw the charge arrangement and show the fields.

If the north end of a magenitic compass points to the geographic north of the Earth, what can be said about the type of magnetic pole at that location?

Considering your answer to the previous questions, draw a cross-section of the Earth showing it’s magnetic field.

Answer #1

If we have an electric diploe that means one positive and other negative charge seperated by a distance
then the electric field pattern will be similar to the magnetic field pattern of the bar magnet.
As shown in the figure.

(2)If we allow a bar magnet to move or swing freely then pole of the magnet that is seeking toward
geographic north pole is marked as N or north pole of magnet.
But as we know that the opposite poles attract each other that means magnetic pole of earth near geographic north
pole must be south so they can attract the north pole of magnet.
