A concave mirror brings the sun's rays to a focus in front of the mirror. suppose the mirror is submerged in a swimming pool but still pointed up at the sun. will the sun's rays be focused nearer to, farther from, or the same distance from the mirror? Explain with help from a ray diagram.

Answer #1

The laws of reflection states that incident ray, refleted ray and the normal to the surface of mirror all ray are lie in the same plane. The angle of incidence equal to the angle of reflection.

The laws of reflection are same in any material medium. The focus of the mirror remains same when medium changes as the focal length depends on the radius of curvature of mirror not the refractive index on medium.

If the mirror is submerged in a swimming pool, the focal length of the mirror does not change.Hence the sun rays focus at the same distance.

Thus if the mirror is submerged in a swimming pool sun rays will be focused at the same distance from the mirror.
