A car travels with a constant velocity of 60 mph for at time of 4 hours. For the next two hours, it travels with a constant velocity of 70 mph. What is the average velocity for the 6 hours?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Solution: Assuming straight line motion

Average velocity = Average speed = (Total distance travelled)/(Total time taken)

Now for first 4 hours distance travelled =Velocity time =604=240 miles.

For next 2 hours distance travelled =702=140 miles.

So Total distance travelled =240+140=380 miles.

Total Time taken =6 hours.

Thus average velocity =380/6=63.33 mph....... Answer.
