Two 8.1 ? resistors are connected in parallel, as are two 4.7 ? resistors. These two combinations are then connected in series in a circuit with a 14 V battery. What is the current in each resistor and What is the voltage across each resistor

Answer #1

two 8.1 ohm resistors are in parallel so equivalent of both = 8.1*8.1/(8.1+8.1) = 4.05 ohm

two 4.7 ohm resistors are in parallel so equivalent of both = 4.7*4.7/(4.7+4.7) = 2.35 ohm

now 4.05 ohm and 2.35 ohm are in series.

equivalent resistance of circuit = 4.05+2.35 = 6.4 ohm

current through battery = 14/6.4 = 2.19 amp

current through each 8.1 ohm resistor = 2.19/2 = 1.095 amp

current through each 4.7 ohm resistor = 2.19/2 = 1.095 amp

voltage across each 8.1 ohm resistor = 1.095*8.1 = 8.87 volt

voltage across each 4.7 ohm resistor = 1.095*4.7 = 5.14 volt
