If fluid is pumped in a tube (moving by convection), and the tubes diameter is reduced by half, and if all factors remain the same, what will happen to the flow rate of the fluid?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

The volume flow rate through a tube is directly proportional to the fourth power of the radius of the tube, according to Poiseuille equation.

Keeping all factors same, if the diameter of the tube is reduced by half, the radius (r) also reduces by half and so, the volume flow rate becomes 1/16th of its original value.
