If an electroscope is negatively charged, what will happen to the leaves if another negatively charged rod were brought close to the electroscope? What will happen to the leaves if a positively charged rod were brought close to the electroscope? How would this be different if the electroscope was not charged at all?

A student grounds an electroscope by touching the top sphere with her finger, causing the leaves to hang down in a neutral position, then removes her finger. She then brings a negatively charged plastic rod close to the electroscope without touching it and the leaves open, repelling each other. What is the net charge on the entire electroscope

if a positively charged glass rod is touching the metal ball in an initially neutral electroscope, what charge will generate in the LEAVES of the electroscope through conduction? Please draw the conducting parts of the electroscope and show the distribution of charges?? C) An electroscope has an initial charge. As an object of unknown charge polarity approaches the sphere of the electroscope, the leaves of the electroscope come closer together. When the same object then comes in contact with the sphere, the leaves completely collapse together briefly and then spread apart again. When a second object that is negatively charged comes close to the sphere of the electroscope, the leaves come closer together. a) What is the polarity of charge of the...

You bring a negatively-charged glass rod close to (but without touching) a neutral metal sphere that is connected to ground by a wire. After waiting a few seconds, the wire is broken (without touching the sphere), and after that the rod is also removed. The shpere is now a. neutral b. positively charged c. negatively charged

A large electroscope is made with "leaves" that are 70 cm long wires with 22 g spheres at the ends. When charged, nearly all the charge resides on the spheres. If the wires each make a 30° angle with the vertical, what total charge Q (in µC) must have been applied to the electroscope? Ignore the mass of the wires.

a. We have a negatively charged rubber rod and a neutral pith ball that are far apart and don’t affect each other. The rubber rod is then brought near the pith ball but does not touch it. Will the pith ball be repelled, attracted, or not affected? Explain your answer in detail. b. Now assume that we do the demonstration again starting from scratch and that the negatively charged rubber rod touches the neutral pith ball. Afterwards, the rubber rod...

Consider the amino acid histidine, whose side chain pKa = 6.0. Explain what would happen to the histidine pKa if inside of a protein a positively charged lysine was brought into close proximity of the histidine. Do you think the Histidine pKa would increase, decrease, or remain the same? Explain WHY you chose your answer.
