What are the possible situations for convex, concave, and plane mirrors and lens depending on the image location from the focal point? For example when an object is placed farther from a convex mirror than the focal length, the image would small or enlarged and virtual or real and upright or inverted?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

For the convex mirror if the obejct is before the focal point then

This image is virtual; the light does not pass through the image.

This image is upright.

This image is enlarged.

For the convex mirror if the obejct at the back of the focal point then

This image is real; the light actually passes through the image.

This image is upside down.

This image is smaller than the object.

Now for the cancave mirror if the position of the object is at infinity and the position of the image is towards the object then the nature of the iamge is virtual and erect, then the size of the iamge smaller thn the object

For concave mirror , if the position of the object is between the infinity and the lens and the position of the image is between the lens and Focal point and the nature of the iamge will be virtual and erect and the sizeof the image is smaller than the object.

For plane mirrors

In plane mirrors, the image is said to be a virtual image. Virtual images are images that are formed in locations where light does not actually reach. Light does not actually pass through the location on the other side of the mirror; it only appears to an observer as though the light is coming from this location.Whenever a mirror (whether a plane mirror or otherwise) creates an image that is virtual, it will be located behind the mirror where light does not really come from.

A convex lens with a focal length of magnitude 4.0 cm and a concave lens with a focal length of magnitude 10 cm are separated by a distance of 18 cm as shown in the diagram below. The convex lens is on the left, and the concave lens is on the right. An object is then placed 6.0 cm to the left of the convex lens. Locate the final image. Because a concave lens cannot form a real image of a real object, it is difficult to measure its focal length precisely. One method uses a second, convex, lens to produce a virtual object for the concave lens. Under the proper conditions, the concave lens will form a real image of the virtual object! A student conducting a laboratory project on concave lenses makes the following observations: When a lamp is placed 42.7 cm to the left of a particular...

A convex lens is lined up with a concave mirror so that they share the same optical axis. This axis is also defined to be the x-axis. A very small light bulb is placed near the lens so that light emanating from the bulb passes through the lens and forms an image that is located between the lens and the concave mirror. The location of the small bulb, however, is unknown. Listed below are the details about what is known...
