A computer is reading data from a rotating CD-ROM. At a point that is 0.0104 m from the center of the disk, the centripetal acceleration is 204 m/s2. What is the centripetal acceleration at a point that is 0.0727 m from the center of the disc?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Angular speed of the CD-ROM =

Distance of the first point from the center of the disk = R1 = 0.0104 m

Centripetal acceleration of the first point = a1 = 204 m/s2

a1 = 2R1

204 = 2(0.0104)

= 140.05 rad/s

Distance of the second point from the center of the disk = R2 = 0.0727 m

Centripetal acceleration of the second point = a2

a2 = 2R2

a2 = (140.05)2(0.0727)

a2 = 1426 m/s2

Centripetal acceleration of a point 0.0727 m from the center of the disc = 1426 m/s2

When reading data from a CD, the CD player must vary the discs rotational speed so that it reads data at a constant rate. The rate at which the the CD reads data is related to the linear velocity of a point on the disc. Assume the inner radius of the disc is 36.0 mm and the outer radius is 118 mm, and that the linear velocity required to read data a constant rate is 1.70 m/s. 1.What frequency of...
