When a small magnet is placed in a magnetic field, it is found that the magnet moves along one direction. What information can you get about the magnetic field in the space?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Since the magnet moves along one direction so we can say that magnetic field in the region will be uniform . Because if magnetic field will not uniform than motion of the magnet will not be  in a single direction. Magnet in the magnetic field is moving so magnetic force on the magnet will not zero this implies that magnetic field in the region will not zero.

we can get only two information about the magnetic field as , it will uniform and non zero. for the direction of magnetic field we need more information.

Written Problem: Induction from a falling magnet We have a small magnet with a magnetic moment of m = 0.1 Am2 (remember: magnetic moment is defined as m = IA - see page 932 of book for the definition). We also have coils of wire. The coils are made out of 100 circular loops of a single wire. A single loop has a radius of 10 cm. The thickness of the wire has a circular cross section with a 0.5...

Given a magnet that is free to rotate in an external magnetic field, which way will it line itself up? Draw your answers in paint (i.e. draw the field lines, and draw the final position of the magnet with the poles labeled). Do four different examples: magnetic field up, magnetic field down, magnetic field left, magnetic field right. You don't have to draw each one out but I just don't understand what this question was asking. If someone could just...
