Multiple Choice Problem 23.10
A light beam has a wavelength of 400 nm in a material of refractive index 2.00.
Part A
In a material of refractive index 2.50, its wavelength will be
ANSWER:
In a material of refractive index 2.50, its wavelength will be: (multiple choice)
a) 800 nm . |
b) 400 nm . |
c) 200 nm . |
d) 320 nm . |
e) 160 nm . |
Solution -:
given data;
lembda 1 = 400 nm
n1 = 2.00
n2 = 2.50
frequency f = velocity / wavelength
So,
=> v1 / lembda 1 = v2 / lembda 2
also v = c / n
Then ,
c = speed of light
n = refractive index of the medium
So,
=> (c/n1) / lembda 1 = (c/n2)/ lembda 2
So,
lembda1 / lembda 2= n2 / n1
Put values..
400 nm / lembda 2 = 2.50 / 2.00
Then find lembda 2
So,
lembda 2 = 400*2 / 2.50
lembda 2 = 800 / 2.50
lembda2 = 320 nm (Option d is Answer)
I hope help you !!
