Can you cause a current to flow with the bar magnet held and/or moved alongside the coil rather than being inserted into it or removed from inside it? Can you cause a current to flow with the solenoid located outside of the 400 turn coil?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

We can induce current (or induced emf) by changing the magnetic flux.

Magnetic flux through a coil due to a magnet or solenoid is given by = B.A

Or = BAcos, here B is magnetic field of bar magnet or sosolenoid which is constant because wwe can not move the magnet.

A is area of coil

is angle between area vector and B vector.

Induced current is given by

I = (1/R)d/dt= (1/R)BA(dcos)/dt

So if we change the angle between magnetic field and area vector then there will be induced current.

A flashlight can be made that is powered by the induced current from a magnet moving through a coil of wire. The coil and magnet are inside a plastic tube that can be shaken causing the magnet to move back and forth through the coil. Assume the magnet has a maximum field strength of 0.05 T. Assume that the radius of the coil is 1.5 cm and the magnet is shaken with a frequency of about two shakes (each back...

If you drop a bar magnet down a tube made of conducting material (like copper or aluminum) something interesting happens: the bar magnet does not simply accelerate all the way down under the influence of gravity. Instead, there are forces that oppose the motion and cause the bar magnet to descend at essentially a constant velocity. Suppose you do this two times: once with the north pole of the magnet facing down and the second time with the north pole...

If you pass a current through a wire, you can create a magnetic field. In this class we examine the field from three specific configurations: an infinitely-long straight wire, a compact loop of wire (possibly with multiple turns, a coil), or an infinitely long solenoid (think of an infinitely-long cylinder of loops made by wrapping a single wire). See the text for an extended description of all three geometries. Here’s the challenge: there are three slightly different formulas used to...

Imagine that you have a closed loop of wire sitting on a table and a bar magnet in your hand. You are allowed to move the magnet any way you’d like, but you may not touch the wire. Is there a way for you to produce a current in the wire? If so, how can you do it? If not, why not? Imagine you have two wire loops lying next to each other on a table. The first one is...

Please do not attempt to solve if you can not answer all!!! THE ENERGY BAR INDUSTRY In 1986, PowerBar, a firm in Berkeley, California, single-handedly created the energy bar category. Positioned as an athletic energy food, it was distributed at bike shops and events that usually involved running or biking. The target segment was the athlete who needed an efficient, effective energy source. Six years later, seeking to provide an alternative to the sticky, dry nature of the PowerBar, a...
