3) In a lab in electrical circuits, your laboratory colleague
challenges you by asking you to connect a circuit with the total
resistance (replacement resistance) 1 000 ?. One requirement is
that you use at least three resistors, each of which is of
different size, and that both serial and parallel connection must
occur. Describe which resistors you used as well as clearly how to
connect these.
I'm new to physics, so please explain thoroughly, thank
you!
Please take the three resistors as 1000 ohm, 1000 ohm and 500 ohm. Then, connect two 1000 ohm resistors in parallel with each other.
Their total will come out to be 500 ohm. (because in parallel with equal resistors, we get net or total as half).
Now, connect in series with the remaining 500 ohm resistor. Then, finally the total resistance will come out to be 1000 ohm.
(in series the resistance simply adds up).
In this way, you can connect three resistors both in series and parallel connections.
Additional thing to note: In parallel, both legs of the resistors are connected together, while in series only one leg of a resistor is connected to one leg of other resistor.
