A raft is 4.0 m wide and 6.1 m long. When a horse is loaded onto the raft, it sinks 3.9 cm deeper into the water. What is the weight of the horse?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Given,
Raft length, l = 6.1 m
Width, w = 4 m
Depth, d = 0.039 m
Weight of the horse = weight of the water displaced
                               = mw * g
                               = ?w * (volume of water displaced) * g
                              = 1000 kg / m^3 * (6.1 m * 4 m * 0.039 m ) * 9.8 m/s^2
Weight of the horse , W = 9325.68 N (Ans)
