A man stands halfway between two at mirrors that face each other and are 5.0 m apart. How far from the man will be the second image he sees in the mirror that he is facing? (Hint: Use each image as the object for the next re ection)

Homework Answers

Answer #1

for the first mirror

object distance for the first mirror do1 = 5/2 = 2.5 m

distance of first image from the man di1 = 5/2 + 5/2 = 5 m

the first image will act as object for the second mirror

object distance for the second mirror do2 = 5 + 5/2 = 7.5 m

distance of first image formed in second mirror from second = 7.5 m

the first image in second mirror is teh object for first mirror

distance of first image in secodn mirror from first mirror = 7.5 + 5 = 12.5 m

distance of second image in first mirror from first mirror = 12.5 m

distance of second image in first mirror from man = 12.5 + 2.5 = 15 m <<--------ANSWER

A woman at a carnival funhouse is standing between a convex mirror and a concave mirror which are 3.00 m apart. The woman is 2.00 m from the convex mirror. The radius of curvature of the convex mirror is 2.00m. An upright image formed in one of the mirrors is reflected by the other mirror, making a final image at the position of the original woman. The woman is 1.70 m tall. (a) Do two separate ray tracing diagrams, showing...
