Is a fish swimming in river located at the exact position you observe? Why or Why Not?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

A fish swimming in river is a macroscopic object.

According to the Heisenberg's Uncertainty Principle, for objects with a substantial mass (i.e., a macroscopic object) , even a small uncertainty in speed suggests a huge uncertainty in momentum. Heisenberg's Uncertainty Principle at that point requires just a correspondingly little uncertainty in position. Thus for a fish swimming in river we locate it at the exact position we observe it since the uncertainty in position is insignificant.

A fish swimming in a horizontal plane has a velocity vo=(4i+j) m/sec at a point in the ocean whose position vector is r0=(10i-4j)m. After the fish swims with constant acceleration for 20 sec, its velocity is v=(20i-5j) m/s. Find 1.The components of the acceleration.2.The direction of the acceleration with respect to the x-axis.3.The coordinates of the fish at t=25 sec and its direction of motion.

You own a house worth $600,000 that is located on a river. If the river floods moderately, the house will be completely destroyed. This happens about once every 50 years. If you build a seawall, the river would have to flood heavily to destroy your house, which happens about once every 200 years. Consider a population of river eels of size 1000. You observe that 422 of these eels express a recessive phenotype known as super-slimy. A single gene with two alleles, S and s, controls this condition, with the S allele dominant to the s allele. What is the frequency of the recessive allele (s) in a population at Hardy-Weinberg Equilibrium (HWE)? 0.422 0.578 0.650 0.760

Calvin Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant, located on the Hobbes River, generates 1.00 GW of power. In this plant, liquid sodium circulates between the reactor core and a heat exchanger located in the superheated steam that drives the turbine. Heat is absorbed by the liquid sodium in the core, and released by the liquid sodium (and into the superheated steam) in the heat exchanger. The temperature of the superheated steam is 500 K. Heat is released into the river, and the...
