Why nanoparticles have quantised properties?
Solution
Nano particles have order of size in the nano meters region(10^(-9)m). The quantum properties of materials come into play in near atomic size regime. Materials behave ' classically ' in ordinary sizes. As the size get smaller and smaller the matter wave wavelength associated with them (the debroglie wavelength) get bigger in size as we know de Broglie wavelength is given by,
As mass decreases ( for smaller particles ) wavelength increases and materials show more wavelike properties in them. These leads to properties like quantisation in them. This is reason for observed more quantum like properties of nanoparticles.
