Give short account about the effect of an impulse on a rigid body that is free to move in laminar motion.

Answer #1

in every day life all object move due impulse .

impuslse is basicaly very very short time high magnitude force .

due to impulse momentum of object change in very short interval of time .

example when a blower throw ball and batsman hit it direction of motion of ball change in very very small interval and ball goes upto long distance . This is due to impulse provided by bat on ball .

another example - when a ball fall on ground instantly is change direction and come back in air . Here ground provide high impulse who change direction of motion from downward motion to upward .

impulse = force . time = change in momentum .

The dynamics equations of motion for rigid body motion is a plane is given by: ΣF = ma       (translational acceleration) ΣMCM = ICMα   (rotational acceleration) where MCM is the moment about the Center of Mass, ICM is moment of inertia about the Center of Mass, and α is the angular acceleration. A rigid body having radius of gyration at its mass center of 60 cm is constrained to rotate about a location 100 cm from its mass center. The mass of the body is 10 kg. Ball bearings are used to reduce friction at the suspending pin joint. The damping coefficient for rotation about the pin joint is given by c = 2 N.  If the mass center of the body is displaced 3 cm to the left of its equilibrium position...

A rigid body is rotating counterclockwise about a fixed axis. Each of the following pairs of quantities represents an initial angular position and a final angular position of the rigid body. If the object starts from rest at the initial angular position, moves counterclockwise with constant angular acceleration, and arrives at the final angular position with the same angular speed in all three cases, for which choice is the angular acceleration the highest? * 3 rad, 6 rad * 1...

Two disks are fused into one body that is free to rotate about an axis through its center, as shown. The inner disk has a radius a = 20 cm and a 60 N weight is suspended vertically from string wrapped around it. The outer disk has radius b = 40 cm and a force of magnitude F is applied tangent to its rim. What value of F is required to give zero net torque about their common center?
