TOPIC: A step up transformer increases voltage (energy per unit charge). Does this mean we can get "free" energy using step-up transformers? Explain your answer.

Homework Answers

Answer #1

No, we cannot get free energy using Step Up Transformers. Electrical transformers are used to transmit electrical energy from one place to another without changing the electrical power to be transmitted.i.e., P=V*I, the product of voltage and current is kept constant while transmitting electrical power. Hence if the Step Up Transformer increases the voltage then the current is reduced such that the product of voltage and current which is electrical power is constant. Hence we can say in nutshell that Transformers only Transforms the voltage level without affecting the electrical power to be transmitted

2(a). A transformer has a primary-to-secondary turns ratio of 100:1. The voltage on the primary side is 27.7 kv.a.c. at 60.0 Hz ( assume 60.0 Hz when treating electric power topics). A load is connected across the secondary winding. Assuming that the transformer is ideal, what voltage is developed to the load? Briefly show your work. Sketch a diagram. 2(b). The load of part a is a 2.00-ohm load. How much current does the load draw from the transformer’s secondary...

Exchange rates can be quoted as foreign currency per unit of domestic currency or domestic currency per unit of foreign currency. Unless otherwise stated, we adopt the convention that is given in your textbook, that is, we define exchange rates as domestic currency per unit of foreign currency. Using the dollar and euro as a currency pair, the bilateral exchange rate is E$/€, expressed as dollars per euro. a. Suppose that the initial exchange rate is given as $1/€1, i.e.,...

Finding the Spring Constant We can describe an oscillating mass in terms of its position, velocity, and acceleration as a function of time. We can also describe the system from an energy perspective. In this experiment, you will measure the position and velocity as a function of time for an oscillating mass and spring system, and from those data, plot the kinetic and potential energies of the system. Energy is present in three forms for the mass and spring system....

1. Let’s think about a per unit production subsidy. Start with an initial equilibrium price of $5 and quantity of 100 million. Now provide producers with a $1 per unit subsidy. Shade in (the cost of) the subsidy, make up numbers for the new quantity exchanged, the price consumers face (Pc) and the price producers get (Pp). Ideally you can do this without simply copying it from the book... try it over several days until you can. 2. The goal...
