What is modulation transfer function and what information does it give us about an imaging system?

Answer #1

Modulation transfer system (MTF) is spatial frequency response of imaging system and its components. It gives the contrast at a given spatial frequency as compare to to low frequencies.

Its is converting contrast value of different size object into contrast intensity level in the image.

Its detector has capacity to transfer the modulation of the input signal at given spatial frequency to output.

It is useful to detect true or effective resolution.
