How are free-fall and parabolic motion similar? How are they different?

In what circumstances is it appropriate to use the range equation?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Answer: The similarity between free fall and parabolic motion is that both falls under the influence of acceleration of gravity and which is same for both of them which means acceleration is constant and similar for both the case.

They are different in a way that in a free fall case, it has only downward motion i.e vertical motion. However, in parabolic motion, it has both horizontal as well as vertical motion.

Range equation is used to determine the horizontal distance. In free fall and parabolic, only parabolic has horizontal motion. Thus, range equation is used in parabolic motion.
