Answer #1

1/ If three 10 Watt light bulbs are connected in series to a 60V power supply, what is the current throught each bulb?
resistance of a 10 Watt = v2/p = 602/10 =360 ohm
If three 10 Watt light bulbs are connected in series then resistance = 3* 360 ohm = 1080 ohm
then current though these bulbs = 60/1080 = 0.0556 A

2/ If a 4th 10 Watt bulb is added in series, would each bulb burn brighter , dimmer, or remain in the same as before the bulb was added, and why?[Hint: consider what would happen to the current.]
If a 4th 10 Watt bulb is added in series, then current through the bulbs = 60/(4*360) = 0.0416 A
and voltage across the bulb = 60/4 =15V
power of the bulb = 15*0.0416 = 0.625 W
power of a bulb when there were 3 bulbs connected = (60/3)*0.0556 = 1.11 W
so In newly connected circuit each bulb burn dimmer

Light bulbs are often rated by the wattage of the bulb, i.e. 60-watt or 90-watt rated bulbs are common. This can be misleading because if you attach the same bulb to different voltage sources they will produce a different power output. The rating is with the assumption that you are connect- ing it to a standard voltage, like the 120 volts that come from the wall outlet (for this problem lets ignore the effects of alternating current). Suppose you have a circuit with a 10 volt battery hooked up to a 100 ohm light bulb and a variable resistor of R ohms. The light bulb and the resistor can be hooked up in series or parallel. Draw both these circuits and label them as series or parallel and with the values of each component. Now, solve for the current in the light bulb in each of these circuits for R = 10, 100, and 1000 Ohms. Given...

Please answer.. Overview: When a wire is attached to the positive terminal of a power source, such as a battery, and to the negative terminal of the battery a potential difference is set across that wire and a current is generated through that wire. Depending on how much resistance there is in the wire will affect the amount of current through that wire. Adding more resistance will further affect the amount of current.  In this experiment you will measure both the...
