Best 3-D motion example is that of projectile motion as shown in attached doc. The direction of acceleration is always in the direction of motion or in the direction of change in velocity.

Here, the acceleration will have horizontal as well as vertical accleration.

Example of 2-D motion is free falling of a ball, where the ball will have the acceleration due to gravity downwards.
