A stunt double for a movie must run off of the roof of one building to land on another that is lower. If the stunt double can run horizontally at a maximum of 8.0 m/s and the second roof is 0.6 m below the first, what is the maximum distance apart the two buildings can be for the stunt double to make it across the gap?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Here we have given that,

Velocity= 8.0 m/s and

second roof depth 0.6 m

Now for the maximum distance apart the two buildings can be for the stunt double to make it across the gap we will have,

Time taken to cover the depth 0.6 m= (2×h/g)^0.5

T = 0.3499 sec

Now we know that ,

Inital Velocity of stunt double is 8 m/s

So that the distance between the buildings will be given as,

d = V×T = 8×0.3499 = 2.799 m

Hence maximum distance apart the two buildings can be for the stunt double to make it across the gap will be 2.799 m
