In addition to the subsonic inlets , the main goal for the design of a supersonic engine inlet are:

1. Axissymmetric outward turning, which is done by rotating the design of the inlet about an axix of symmetry. It helps in turning the supersonic flow outward from the main axis of the inlet.

2. Axisymmetric Inward-Turning The shape is created by rotating a profile about an axis-of-symmetry. The profile turns the supersonic flow toward the axis. The shape can be the full orpartial annulus with sidewalls.

So these are the two primary design goals of a supersonic engine inlet.
