When jogging for a while, some parts of the body fell pain due to vibration. Explain how vibration  resonance is related to the pain.

Answer #1

While jogging for long periods of time, we tend to acquire a constant speed. With every step, the impact with the ground delivers some vibration through the legs up to the entire body. This impact, due to constant speed, is seen to come in equal intervals of time i.e. the frequency of impact is constant.

The natural frequency of the human body when standing is about 7.5Hz, which reduces further on the motion. If the frequency of impact comes closer to the natural frequency of the body, then resonance occurs, and the displacements in the joints increase further with each impact. So, the pain in the joints increases with each step, until he/she reduces his speed or stops. If running is continued even after the pain, it could lead to severe injuries.

Xirui, a 34 year old female, is at the doctor primarily due to joint pain. As you chat with Xirui, she explains, “For a couple months now I’ve been getting these occasional ‘attacks’ of joint pain. I remember one time I drove home from school and then the joint pain came on. I could barely move my wrists and shoulders, and had to sit in my car waiting for the pain to go away. It kept on, so I had...

How does an antenna behave when it is cooled so that its black-body radiation is emitting energy at its resonant frequency? Edit: To clarify, its not how they're related in general, but how might thermal radiation and resonance interact with each other when their spectra are aligned well? Edit: Also, I'm sure that the thermal radiation spectra that have a significant peaks are associated with incredibly high temperatures, and peak at incredibly small wavelengths, rendering such an antenna completely impractical...

Real Country Boots was surprised when its marketing campaign featuring a cowboy fell flat in some South American countries but prospered in the United States. They later determined that a cowboy was considered “just another job” in parts of South America so it held little appeal to consumers. In our solar system, when the ratio of the orbital periods of two objects has some special values, this corresponds to an orbital resonance. Particularly interesting are the resonance between Jupiter and objects on the asteroid belt. a. Calculate the semi-major axes that correspond to the following resonances with Jupiter PJ /PAst =3 , PJ /PAst = 5 2 , PJ /PAst = 7 3 , and PJ /PAst =2 , where PJ is the orbital period of Jupiter and...
