Find the change in internal energy of a system if 75 J of heat is transferred to it, and the system does 45 J of work on the surroundings.

If there is no change of state, what happens to the temperature.

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Heat transferred Q = 75 J

Work done W = 45 J

Change ininternal energy U = Q-W

                                        = 75 J - 45 J

                                        = 30 J

Heat, q, is energy transferred between a system and its surroundings. For a process that involves a temperature change q=m?Cs??T where Cs is specific heat and m is mass. Heat can also be transferred at a constant temperature when there is a change in state. For a process that involves a phase change q=n??H where, n is the number of moles and ?H is the enthalpy of fusion, vaporization, or sublimation. The following table provides the specific heat and enthalpy...

A sample of gas is contained in an expandable balloon. 10 KJ of heat is transferred to the gas which causes the balloon to expand at constant pressure. If the internal energy of the gas does not change during this process, calculate the work done and the change in volume ( in L) of the balloon. ( the pressure of the surroundings is 1030 mBar).
