While walking across campus, preoccupied with thoughts about
your calculus homework, you mistakenly wander into a time-travel
gateway (surprisingly, a group project for physics that actually
worked!) and find yourself in a prehistoric forest. Having seen
Jurassic World, you recognize the velociraptor 40 meters away. Your
involuntary gasp gives you away and the velociraptor spots you.It
immediately thinks, “Mmmmmmm.... A tasty snack!” and begins to
sprint toward you, accelerating at a constant rate of 4 meters/sec2
until it reaches its top speed, then continues after you at this
speed. You, of course, immediately run away. How far can you get
before you’re caught? Is there time enough for you to devise a
survival plan? What happens?
(You will need to make some reasonable assumptions about the
speed components of this problem.)
