Since muons travells nearly at the speed of light so the length is contracted in their frame of reference.

the distance which we see as few kms but in muon 's frame of reference that distance will seem to be few hundred metres. and we know the moving things seems shorter and proper length is maximum.

In a nutshell muon see a contracted length in it's frame of reference .
