A technologically oriented diving coach wishes to analyze the vertical "push off" for members of the diving team. In order to do this, she simulates the diving process by having the athletes drop (free fall) from an adjustable height platform onto a "force-o-meter" which measures the vertical force the divers exert on the ground as a function of time. For a particular diver with a mass of 65.0 kg, she sets the adjustable height platform at 0.585 m and instructs the diver to free fall onto the "force-o-meter" and push off as she would in a dive. The computer readout shows that the diver was in contact with the meter for 0.750 s and that the force exerted on the platform may be described by the function F(t) = (12,000 N/s)t − (16,000 N/s2)t2 where the force will be in Newtons when the time is seconds. Determine the following. (a) speed of the diver when she lands on the meter (Enter your answer to at least two decimal places.) m/s (b) vertical upward impulse the meter imparts to the diver (Enter your answer to at least four significant figures.) N · s (c) speed of the diver when she leaves the meter m/s (d) height of the diver's jump after leaving the meter m.

A force platform is a tool used to analyze the performance of athletes measuring the vertical force that the athlete exerts on the ground as a function of time. Starting from rest, a 64.0-kg athlete jumps down onto the platform from a height of 0.670 m. While she is in contact with the platform during the time interval 0 < t < 0.800 s, the force she exerts on it is described by the function F = 9 200t −...

In an adventure movie, a 68 kg stunt woman slips off a ledge, falls 7.5 m and lands in a huge air bag. Her vertical speed when initially leaving the ledge was zero. Her speed just before she hit the air bag was 10 m/s. a) What is the woman’s change in kinetic energy after she comes into contact with the bag? (3400 J or -3400 J) b) What is the total work done on the stunt woman while she...
