A spaceship passes you at a speed of 0.837c. You measure its length to be 48.6 m. How long would it be when at rest?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

A space ship passes at a speed v = 0.837 c

Length of the space ship when it is in motion is L = 48.6 m

                         L = L ' / √ 1 - v^2 /c^2

                              =48.6m / √1 - ( 0.837 c/c)^2

                              = 88.81 m
