A daredevil college professor wants to jump across a canyon of depth 100 m and width 50m on his motorcycle. He uses a ramp inclined at 60 degrees to cross the canyon. The other side of the canyon is 10 m lower than his side. (a) Find the minimum velocity, v0, that his motorcycle should have to make it safely across the canyon. (b) Find the final velocity (when the professor lands on the other side) (c) Find the angle with respect to x-axis of the final velocity.

A Hollywood daredevil plans to jump the canyon shown in the figure on a motorcycle. There is a 15. m drop and the horizontal distance across the canyon is 61.2 m. If he desires a 3.1-second flight time, what is the correct angle for his launch ramp (deg)? What is his correct launch speed? What is the correct angle for his landing ramp (give a positive angle below the horizontal)? What is his predicted landing velocity. (Neglect air resistance.)

1. A motorcycle stunt rider wants to jump a 123 m wide canyon. She arranges a ramp on one side so she will be launched at 40o above the horizontal. What is the minimum speed she will need to reach the other side? A hydraulic jump is formed in a trapezoidal channel of 2.0-m bed width, 1:1 side slope, and carrying a discharge of 6.0 m3/s. The initial and final depths of the jump are 0.5m and 2.0m, respectively. Concrete blocks are placed to stabilize the jump. Cf = 0.6. Construct the M-y diagram for the channel section. Find the critical depth.
