Question

How mass of a sub atomic particle varies with respect to (i) ALTITUDE and (ii) SPEED?

Answer #1

Part 1 :- There is no change of mass of sub atomic particle with altitude

Let us take an example a proton would be of same mass weather you measure it at your home or at the peak of mount everest

part 2 :- mass of sub atomic particle increases with increase in speed, as you increase the speed of sub atomic particle its mass will start to increase .

The mass will increase according to Einstein relativistic formula

M = Mo/{1- (v/c)^2}^1/2

M is mass at speed v

Mo is the rest mass that is mass of particle at rest

V is the speed with which particle is moving

C is the speed of light

What is the difference between atomic mass and molar mass? I
know atomic mass is measured in amu and molar mass in g/mol, but I
don't know how to apply that difference practically.

An atomic nucleus initially moving at 420 m/s emits an alpha
particle in the direction of its velocity, and the new nucleus
slows to 340 m/s. If the alpha particle has a mass of 2u and the
original nucleus has a mass of 220u, what speed does the alpha
particle have when it is emitted?

A particle A was moving at a speed of 0.8 c, with respect to the
lab frame, in the +x- direction, when it decayed into two identical
particles F and G , with G having momentum along the +x- direction.
The masses of the particles are mA= 100 MeV/c2, mF=mG=30 MeV/c2.
What are the momenta and the velocities of each particle F and G in
the frame S?

A small particle has a mass of 3.5mg and carries a charge of
7.0μC. It is launched in the horizontal direction with a speed of
10.0m/s from an altitude of 0.25m above a large horizontal surface.
There is a downward pointing electric field of strength 5.5N/C
everywhere above the surface. How far does the particle travel in
the horizontal direction before contacting the surface?

A particle of rest mass m0 travels at a
speed v = 0.17c. At what speed will its momentum
be tripled?

A small aircraft of mass 1200 kg is cruising at 250 km/h at an
altitude of 2000 m.
(i) What is the gravitational potential energy (relative to the
ground), and what is the kinetic energy of the aircraft?
(ii) If the pilot puts the aircraft into a dive, what will be the
gravitational potential energy, what will be the kinetic energy,
and what will be the speed when the aircraft reaches an altitude of
1500 m?
Assume that the engine...

(a) One particle has mass m and a second particle has mass 2m.
The second particle is moving with
speed v and the first with speed 2v. How do their kinetic energies
compare?
(b) A person drops a pebble of mass m1 from a height h, and it hits
the floor with kinetic energy K.
The person drops another pebble of mass m2 from a height of 2h, and
it hits the floor with the same
kinetic energy K. How...

(i) Explain why atomic spectra should not exist as predicted by
classical physics? (ii) Bohr was able to resolve one the plagues of
the Rutherford Model of the atom using quantization. How did Bohr
resolve the discrete spectra emitted by atomic gases?

How much work W must be done on a particle with a mass of m to
accelerate it from a speed of 0.891 c to a speed of 0.989 c ?
Express your answer as a multiple of mc2 to three significant
figures.
I keep getting 4.87 as the answer but it says it is wrong.

Q Computers has invented quantum computers. Each computer
contains an exotic sub-atomic particle. Unfortunately this particle
decays in the same
manner as all radioactive particles. Therefore an average quantum
computer only lasts for 14 months.
The University has purchased one of these computers and Professor
Squiggle wants to use it for 7 months. When he tries to book it he
finds that it is
already booked out for the first 5 months. So he books it for the
next 7...
