1. Is a steel ball bouncing up and down on a horizontal steel surface oscillation, simple harmonic oscillation or damped simple harmonic oscillation?

2. A cork shaped as a right circular cylinder has density 500 kg/m^3. It is floating in water. If it is carefully displaced vertically downward so that it is 80% underwater and released, is the resulting motion oscillation, simple harmonic oscillation, or damped simple harmonic oscillation (if we assume the water to be an ideal fluid). Which one is it if the water is not ideal?

3. A pendulum is made of a steel rod of length L which is attached to a small steel hollow sphere of radius R. The sphere is filled with water but there is a small hole in the bottom of the sphere. If the mass of the rod is negligible compared to the mass of the sphere and water, explain the time dependence of the pendulum’s period

Answer #1

que-3 full explanation-

Time period depeds on length Initially(l) of pendulum and this length is from hinge and com of bob when water is full in hollow sphere..it's com at its centre as water flows from it it's com goes down and length increases so time period also increases...when whole water comes out again it's com comes at centre so again time period will be same as intial.
